Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council have launched a multimillion-pound bid for a new free of charge college in Newport for up to 75 pupils.
The island’s authority said a lack of spots intended some pupils had been owning to travel to the mainland.
The new university would be for pupils aged 4 to 16 and would be designed on land future to Carisbrooke College or university.
