Jamila Afghani had to leave her home and office in Afghanistan when the Taliban came to power. She settled in Kitchener, Ontario, where she started a counselling service for women. The Taliban raided her office in Kabul, accused the staff of running “a ministry of women”, and took one of the employees away for questioning.

During this raid, Jamila Afghani’s contact at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs told her that the Taliban are interested in having television programs that teach about Islam.
Jamila Afghani is using this information to try and persuade the Taliban to allow teaching on TV in the hopes that it will help change their views on women and education.
According to Afghani, the Taliban raid resulted from the good work her counselling service was doing in Kabul. She said, “The Taliban know that we’re effective. They can’t stand to see women helped and educated.”
Despite the risks, Afghani is determined to continue her work in Afghanistan. She is currently working on a project to persuade the Taliban to allow teaching on TV. She hopes this will help to change the negative image of Afghan women created by the Taliban and help to improve the education system in Afghanistan.
In addition to her work with the Taliban, Afghani is working on a project to create a television show for Afghan women. This show will feature interviews with successful Afghan women to inspire other women to achieve their goals.
Jamila Afghani is an example of how one person can make a difference in the lives of others. She is using her knowledge and experience to help improve Afghanistan’s education system and change how the Taliban view women. Her work inspires all who believe in the power of education to change lives.
